Fish Can Help Us Open Our Psychic Senses
As part of the psychic & spiritual development class I teach, one key lesson participants in the class continuously work on is trusting the messages that come through to them. It can be hard to share a psychic impression that is coming through to you when you are sitting in the semi-dark and talking with strangers or people you only know through the class!
As one recent participant shared after class, “I just need to learn to trust myself more.” My co-facilitator, Maura, and I constantly encourage people to listen to their inner intuitions, their inner vibes, as a way to expand this trust. The more we begin to tune into our subtle senses, the easier it becomes to notice the patterns of messages and how they are coming through.
Now, I happen to have a secret passion which merges with this concept of trusting our intuition. I love the ocean and all under water creatures. I was lucky enough to grow up on the Atlantic ocean and come in contact with aquatic animals constantly. Often out at sea people have to rely on that inner knowing, or vibe, during a deep sea dive or fishing trip whether to stay or go, stop or continue, back off or push ahead. It can be hard to judge if a situation out at sea can be safe or compatible for humans at any given moment. The weather can take a turn and wild creatures can be unpredictable.
National Geographic Underwater Photographer Brian Skerry sums up how this inner trust works for him on a dive:
It’s like working with any wild animal; you have to do your homework and you have to listen to your instincts too. On any given day you might have a dozen sharks swimming around. Everything feels fine and you sort of get a vibe that says it’s okay. It’s no different than walking in a neighbors yard and one dog is sitting there and you get a certain vibe where it’s wagging its tail and that’s okay. I think you have to listen to that. (Capturing the Deep, National Geographic, 2010)
Skerry is referencing the same concept I highlight in the psychic development class. If people can learn to listen to that inner knowing, or vibe, and learn to trust it, the psychic senses have an easier time coming out, coming forward, and coming alive!
So, the next time you are out running errands, or you are in a meeting at work, pay attention to what your intuition is telling you. What vibes do you get from the people around you. These are forms of psychic ability coming through to you. All you have to do is notice. Not judging, but just noticing how you feel. That’s all. It’s that simple. What is coming through for you?
If you begin to play around with this observation long enough, you will see patterns emerge and the patterns will turn into signs of psychic information and the psychic information will become a way of living and… the possibilities are endless!

Hi, I also have a question this time Laura. I want to open my third eye. But I looked at some videos on you tube and there are a lot of warnings about doing this. About things you might experience. I take care of my 7 yr young granddaughter everyday so I am afraid to open it as I don’t want to freak my granddaughter out. I don’t know what to expect. Can you help me with this problem.
Hi Susan! Great question, and one to be rightly concerned about. When we open ourselves up to any kind of psychic energy we are opening to the potential unknown. When I teach people how to open their psychic senses in classes, I stress the importance of setting boundary first, before opening. In this way, as you explore your natural third eye intuitive gifts, you are doing so from a safe place. Ironically, I am in the middle of producing a psychic protection audio support for folks. It comes directly out of my work with teaching people how to open. Research on the internet for psychic boundary setting and psychic protection, and if you’d like, put yourself on my email list so you can get a copy of my resource as soon as it comes out! Many blessings.
Isn’t it a lovely feeling- when things are balanced? 🙂
Great post!
I used to ignore my intuition, then try to force it – but I’m developing a real relationship with it now – feeling it out.
