J came flying off the slide at breakneck speed. As she turned the corner to hop off, her foot caught and she stumbled forward, skinning her knee slightly on the wood chips. She was more startled than physically hurt, but the tears flowed just the same. As I sat consoling her, one hand rested on her back while the other hand rested on her leg, just above the knee. After a few minutes, she felt better and bounded off to join her friends.
The next day, I ran into her mother who said:
“J told me you do Reiki, how wonderful! She has a Grandmother who does Reiki and she will often give J a dose when she has a tummy ache. J calls it ‘Magic Hands’ and she told me last night that you have ‘Magic Hands’ too!”
I was surprised because I had never told J that I practice Reiki. When I explained this to her Mother a puzzled look crossed her face and we both wondered how J knew. I called J over to us and crouched down. I asked:
“J, when I put my hands on your tummy does it feel like Grandma’s ‘Magic Hands’?”
J answered: “No, not right now.”
This was true because I had not actively thought about the the Reiki in my hands as I lay them on her tummy. I then took hold of her hand and focused specifically on the Reiki flowing from my hands and asked:
“How about now?”
J answered: “Yes! Now it feels like Grandma’s ‘Magic Hands’!”
It was then that I understood that Reiki can spontaneously activate when needed, without us having to do anything to help it. Well to that, I say Hooray for “Magic Hands”!
What an amazing time in space we live in. One in which, I can have an experience and research it to find reassuring answers.
My daughter’s feel the heat when I have my hands above them. I move through the chakra areas and say a loving prayer.
Tonight, my youngest (11) discribed it like a magnetic picking up little needles. That was the visual image she saw in her mind.
Super cool and a resourceful calming interaction that I can share with them.

What a gift you share with your children Sara! Namaste.
That is very cool! I am very interested in learning about this… Thanks, and I will be keeping up.. 🙂
Hi Feora! No question is ever dumb, I’m glad you asked so I can explain! Reiki is an Eastern Energy Healing practice where the Reiki Practitioner lays their hands on specific body parts of the client. This energy can help to transform and heal everything from spiritual matters to life goals to body injury.
I dont mean to be dumb… but what is this? Very interested to know more about what your talking about…..
So fun! It was great to recount this story 🙂
Hooray for “magic hands,” indeed! What a lucky girl to be surrounded by Reiki at a young age.
